What is Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea........................It can affect both men and women. The areas which are very common and are affected by gonorrhea are urethra, rectum or the throat. In women the affected areas remains cervix.

Signs and symptoms of gonorrhea infections in female‚Äôs are- 

In females the vaginal discharge is more, they sometimes have pain while urinating, stomach ache or sometime vaginal pain during intercourse. 

Signs and symptoms of gonorrhea infection in men include- 

Painful urination 
Pus like discharge from the tip of the penis 
Pain or swelling in one testicle.

What are the Causes of Gonorrhea?

Gonorrhea is a bacterial disease which is mainly due to the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhea. The reason for the transmission is sexual contact and it can be transferred from one person to another through sexual contact, oral sex or vaginal sex. 

What are the Treatments available for Gonorrhea?

If you test positive for gonorrhea, need not to worry, the disease is easily treatable .You will likely be offered an antibiotic, either in pill form or by injection single dose is usually all that is required, but some antibiotics require longer courses. Common antibiotics for gonorrhea include Oflaxacin, Cefixine and Ceftriaxine.

  • GONORRHEA TREATMENT FOR BABIES-Babies born to mothers with gonorrhea receives a medication in their eyes soon after birth to prevent infection. If an eye infection develops, babies can be treated with antibiotics.

    GONORRHEA TREATMENT FOR ADULTS
    -gonorrhea in adults can be treated with the oral medication. The group of medication which works on it is known by the name of cephalosporin. 

    GONORRHEA TREATMENT FOR PARTNERS- in gonorrhea its better that both partners should get themselves tested and both partners should take the treatment. If one partner is treated for gonorrhea and has no signs symptoms and other partner remains without treatment can get easily affected. So better to get yourself diagnosed and take the treatment accordingly.

Follow Up
  • After finishing medications, wait 3 days before returning to your doctor to get tested.
  • Get tested for HIV and Chlamydia
  • If for any reason your symptoms do not clear up, return to your doctor for further advice
